Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most common questions about international exams, course format, pricing and logistics.
What's the difference between A-Level and SAT?
A-Level is a British pre-university qualification (ages 16-18), used for admission to UK and international universities. SAT is a standardized test administered by the College Board, used predominantly for admission to US universities.
A-Level is a two-year syllabus (Year 12 and Year 13) and includes specific subjects — Pure Math, Mechanics, Statistics. SAT is a 2h 14min test with two sections: Math and Reading & Writing.
What is IGCSE and why does it matter for A-Level?
IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is the British qualification for the end of secondary school (ages 14-16). It has two levels: Core (max C) and Extended (max A*).
To continue with A-Level Mathematics, IGCSE Extended is required. The IGCSE syllabus includes algebra, geometry, statistics, trigonometry.
How long does SAT or GMAT preparation take?
It depends on starting level and target score. Ideal preparation lasts at least 6 months, with 1-2 sessions per week.
For students with a good starting point, preparation can be 3-4 months. For those wanting high scores (1500+ SAT, 700+ GMAT on the old scale), 8-12 months is realistic.
How much does a tutoring session cost?
Same prices for all exams:
- • 350 RON / 2 hours — in-person at the office at 22 Mieilor Street, Bucharest (≈ 70 EUR)
- • 450 RON / 2 hours — online (live video session) (≈ 90 EUR)
With official receipt for each session. Pay per session, no mandatory packages.
Are sessions one-to-one or group?

What are the boards (Cambridge, Edexcel, AQA) and what's the difference?
Cambridge International, Edexcel (Pearson) and AQA are the three major British certifying organizations that administer A-Level and IGCSE exams.
Differences relate to syllabus structure, exam format, and component weighting (e.g., the ratio of Pure Math / Statistics / Mechanics). For students from Romania, Cambridge and Edexcel are the most common boards.
Preparation adapts to your school's specific board.
What is the Digital SAT?
Starting March 2024, the SAT moved to fully digital format — taken on a personal laptop or tablet (via the College Board app). Total duration is ~2h 14min.
The test is adaptive: the second module of each section adjusts based on performance in the first module. Math content includes algebra, advanced math, problem-solving and geometry.
What is the GMAT Focus Edition?
Starting November 2023, the GMAT has the Focus Edition format — a more compact version (~2h 15min, instead of the previous 3h 7min), with three sections:
- • Quantitative Reasoning (45 min)
- • Verbal Reasoning (45 min)
- • Data Insights (45 min)
Total score is on the 205-805 scale, in 10-point increments.
How do I choose between in-person and online?
For Bucharest students who prefer face-to-face interaction and have time to travel, in-person sessions at the 22 Mieilor Street office are an option.
For students outside Bucharest, expats, or those with busy schedules, online sessions offer the same quality without logistics. Teaching content is identical.
What languages are sessions held in?
Dr. Georgiana Popovici teaches in Romanian, English, Spanish, Turkish, and Arabic.
For students at international schools, sessions are typically held in English — the common language of all Cambridge, IGCSE, A-Level, SAT and GMAT programs (textbooks, terminology, written exams).
For native Romanian, Spanish or Arabic speakers, teaching can be done in the native language (with mathematical terms in English, per the curriculum).
