SAT Math Tutoring

Standardized test administered by the College Board, used for admission to US universities and to a large number of international universities. Fully digital format since 2024.

About the exam

What is the SAT

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test developed and administered by the College Board, used as part of the admission application for US universities. It is also accepted by many international universities (in Europe, Asia, the Middle East).

Starting March 2024, the SAT moved to a fully digital format — taken on a personal laptop or tablet (via the College Board app) and includes adaptive features (the second module of each section adjusts based on performance in the first module).

The total digital test duration is approximately 2 hours 14 minutes, with a break.

The two sections

Section 1

Reading & Writing

Comprehension, grammar, text structure, vocabulary in context. 64 minutes, 54 questions.

Section 2 — my specialty

Math

Algebra, problem-solving, advanced math, geometry. 70 minutes, 44 questions.

Note: I tutor the SAT Math section. For Reading & Writing you'll need a separate English-language specialist.

Math section content

  • Algebra — linear equations, systems, linear functions
  • Advanced Math — quadratic, polynomial, exponential functions, radical equations
  • Problem-Solving and Data Analysis — ratios, percentages, descriptive statistics, probability
  • Geometry and Trigonometry — areas, volumes, triangles, circles, similarity

Scoring

The total score is on the 400–1600 scale, with each section evaluated separately on the 200–800 scale. Competitive US universities typically require scores of 1450+, while top schools (Ivy League) frequently above 1500.

Who is it for

Who takes the SAT

Applicants to US universities

The most common use case. Many US universities are currently "test optional", but the SAT remains an element that can strengthen an admission application.

Applicants to international universities

Universities in the UK, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Singapore, UAE accept the SAT as alternative or supplement to national qualifications.

Scholarships and selective programs

Many international scholarships and selective programs use the SAT score as part of evaluation. A competitive score can unlock funding access.
