A-Level Mathematics Tutoring

Pre-university British qualification (ages 16–18), recognized for admission to UK universities and a large number of international universities (US, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.).

About the exam

What is A-Level Mathematics

A-Level (Advanced Level) is the standard British educational qualification for the final year of secondary school. It is offered by several certifying organizations ("boards") — the most common ones for students from Romania are Cambridge International, Edexcel (Pearson) and AQA.

The A-Level Mathematics exam is typically taken at the end of Year 13, after the student has completed the AS-Level (Year 12) and A2-Level (Year 13) syllabi. In some curriculum variants the components are examined independently, in others integrated into a unified exam.

Standard components

  • Pure Mathematics — algebra, functions, trigonometry, differential and integral calculus, vectors, differential equations.
  • Mechanics — kinematics, dynamics, forces, moments, circular motion (optional component in some schemes).
  • Statistics — probability, discrete and continuous distributions, hypothesis testing, linear regression.

Grading

A-Level Mathematics is graded on the A* – E scale, with A* being the highest result. Typical entry requirements at competitive universities are A*A*A or A*AA, depending on the program.

Who is it for

Who takes A-Level Mathematics

Students at international schools

Students at Cambridge School of Bucharest, IOANID International School, ISB, EBS, Spark School and other schools in the Cambridge or Edexcel network — for whom A-Level is the graduation pathway.

Romanian students applying to UK universities

Students at Romanian high schools who want to apply to British universities and need A-Level as an alternative to (or in addition to) the Romanian Baccalaureate.

Students with A-Level Math + Further Math

Competitive programs (mathematics, physics, engineering, quantitative economics) at universities like Imperial College, LSE, UCL, Warwick often require both Mathematics qualifications.
