IGCSE Additional Mathematics Tutoring
Additional IGCSE qualification for students with an appetite for mathematics. Taken in parallel with IGCSE Mathematics (Extended) and covers concepts that make the transition to A-Level Mathematics much smoother.
What is IGCSE Additional Mathematics
IGCSE Additional Mathematics is a distinct, more advanced qualification than IGCSE Mathematics, aimed at 14-16 year-olds who want to study mathematics at a deeper level. It's taken in parallel with IGCSE Mathematics (Extended) — it doesn't replace it.
Standard codes: Cambridge IGCSE 0606 (Additional Mathematics) and Edexcel IGCSE 4PM1 (Further Pure Mathematics).
The syllabus includes topics that normally appear in the first year of A-Level Math — introductory differentiation and integration, advanced trigonometric identities, higher-degree polynomials, natural logarithms. Effectively, it's a "preview" of A-Level.
Standard content
- ›Functions and sets — injective, surjective, bijective functions, function composition, inverse functions
- ›Logarithmic and exponential functions — properties, logarithmic equations, natural exponential function e^x
- ›Polynomials — factor theorem, remainder theorem, higher polynomial equations
- ›Advanced trigonometry — identities, trigonometric equations, transformed trigonometric graphs
- ›Differential calculus — derivatives of polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions; applications (stationary points, rates of change)
- ›Integral calculus — introductory integration, calculation of areas under function graphs
- ›2D vectors — operations, relative velocities
- ›Permutations and combinations — elementary combinatorial analysis
Why this qualification matters
- ›Bridge to A-Level — students who take Additional at IGCSE enter A-Level Math with a solid foundation; the transition is much smoother
- ›Prerequisite for A-Level Further Math at some schools — strongly recommended if you plan to take Further Mathematics later
- ›Advantage for international admission — an IGCSE A* in Additional Math shows a mature quantitative profile at age 16
Grading
Same scale as IGCSE Mathematics Extended: A* – G. For students planning A-Level Math at competitive level, the target is A* in both (IGCSE Math Extended + IGCSE Additional Math).
